Nok er de gamle, nok har vi set drengene fra Disneyland lige så mange gange som vi har set Shubberne i Tivoli, og nok kom de med i sidste øjeblik på et afbud – faktisk et dødsfald; men faktum er, at Copenhells veludviklede næse for timing, budget og danske armlængde rakte til at præsentere D:A:D i stedet for Megadeth som sidste band.
Tilfældet ville det således, at alle tre afteners headlinere, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sisters og D:A:D stod for den mere oldschool cartoon-heavyrock, og på den baggrund var man vel lidt usikker på, om nogen fra publikum ville råbe: “han har jo ikke noget tøj på!”
Kunne D:A:D stå distancen her i helvedets forgård? Var D:A:D hårde nok?
Kunne Mustains fans undgå at rette evt frustrationer mod Binzer & co?
Svaret er et klart ja.
Albummet “No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims” havde 25 års jubilæum, D:A:D selv 30 år, og Copenhell som bekendt 5 år. D:A:D kunne så fejre sig selv, deres album og Copenhell.
Perfekt og mærkeligt belejligt valgte D:A:D at vende albummet “No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims” om for at kunne spille de største hits “Sleeping my day away” og “Point of View” og “Jihad” til sidst, med gratis bonus at starte koncerten med et af deres mest metalagtige, fræsende og hæsblæsende numre “Ill Will”, for ligesom at slå den åndelige djævleakkord an.
D:A:D lød faktisk generelt, som om de ganske bevidst havde givet lyden lidt ekstra knas og stortrommen mere tyngde.
“Rim of Hell ” som D:A:D beskedent valgte at kalde Copenhells soundtrack, var tung og kvasende på en måde undertegnede ikke har hørt den før.
Publikum nød det gamle album in reverse, der var sing-a-long for alle pengene på stort set alle sangene. Spradebassen Binzer entertainede som han plejer, Laust Sonne var på en eller anden måde det allestedsnærværende hypermusikalske omdrejningspunkt, “Cobber” havde en glad dag på kontoret med gode soli, og i lyset af alle de nævnte positive elementer glemte man lidt, at Stig var tavs som the Stig og leverede “the bare minimum”, nærmest i trods. Gad vide hvad der foregik som publikum ikke fattede noget af? For der var basser af succes; raketbasser, omvendte basser, og i det hele taget obskure baskonstruktioner, som der plejer at være. Og en brændende romerhjelm, som dog blev taget af med en særdeles uoplagt og træt mine, næsten hurtigere end den kom på.
Han fik dog sunget noget “gammel røv” (hans eget udtryk) til sidst, da han og D:A:D gav os “Its after Dark”.
Inden da havde de spillet de to “nye” numre “Monster Philosophy”og I Want What She’s Got”, begge numre som undertegnede nok aldrig vænner sig til; disco og pop, garneret med lidt slem elguitar er ligeså malplaceret som “Within Temptation” på en metalfestival.
Undertegnede husker en D:A:D koncert på Orange for nogle år siden, hvor de skyhøje forventninger bestemt ikke blev indfriet, selvom bandet havde fået lov at spille indtil, Disneyland åbnede igen.
Denne gang var forventningerne afstemte og de spillede et relativt kort og uhyggeligt stramt sæt; det klædte dem i den grad. De beviste, at når de har alt at bevise, så kan de faktisk hanke op i sig selv, så skeptikerne blev gjort til skamme. Man blev helt glad for, at de stadig kan og vil fyre den af. De erobrede sikkert nogle nye territorier og vandt nok også noget tabt land tilbage. Som Jesper Binzer flere gange fik publikum til at synge: “Kom Så Laust, vi ved, du har det!”.
